WILL YOU BE READY ? - Brief Bible Study: Matthew 24:36-44. by Mike Winch
Have you arranged to meet someone at a certain time in a certain place but never made it? You missed a train or bus, got in a traffic jam or perhaps you were just not ready in time! Great emphasis is made in the Bible about being ready. We soon move into the season of Advent - the emphasis of which is preparing for Christ's coming - His second coming! This is declared in the Bible. It is declared in the ancient creeds of the Church. He who came the first time to Bethlehem, came to be our Saviour from sin through His sacrificial death on the Cross. Now the risen, ascended & reigning Christ will come as Judge.
1, THE COMING JUDGEMENT!
Jesus said, "As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man." (vs.37-39). God gave warning through Noah, but the people ignored Noah, regarding him as a religious crackpot as he built this huge boat (450ft long x 75ft wide x 45ft high) at an inland site. Noah was obedient to God.
2. THE TIME IS NOT KNOWN!
Jesus said this; ""Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come." (v.42). Despite people and cults declaring a date, and will do so all the more as we approach 2000, Jesus Himself said that only His Father God knows the date! Therefore -
3. ALWAYS BE READY!
Jesus said, "So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him." (v.44).
As surely as the judgement of the Flood happened, so Jesus will come again as Judge. This will determine whether you spend
eternity in Heaven or Hell.
How can you be ready? Ask Jesus to be your Saviour from your sin. Jesus said, "I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life." (John 5:24).
