Bible readings that help us understand the Good News about Jesus
The Bible verses below help us understand how God deals with the wrongs and mess of our old lives and gives us a new life to live. These are true words – taught by the Apostles sent by Jesus.
The apostle John says, this is how much God loved us, even when our lives were in a mess.
"God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son so that whoever believes in him may not be lost, ut have eternal life." John 3:16 (New Century Version Bible - NCVB)
The prophet Isaiah says, God wants to speak with you about those things messing up your life.
The Lord God says, “Come, let us talk about these things. Though your sins are like scarlet, they can be as white as snow. Though your sins are deep red, they can be white like wool.” Isaiah 1:18 (NCVB)
The apostle Paul says, if we had to pay the price for our sins by ourselves, we would have to die! It was because Jesus was carrying the sins of the whole world that he died on the cross. Jesus paid the price.
“The payment for sin is death.” Romans 6:23 (NCVB)
But John says, because of God’s love for us, Christ came to die in our place, paying for our sins.
“This is how God showed his love to us: He sent his one and only Son into the world so that we could have life through him. This is what real love is: It is not our love for God; it is God’s love for us. He sent his Son to die in our place to take away our sins.” 1 John 4:9-10 (NCVB)
Peter said, in view of what Jesus has done we must turn away from our old lives and begin to live God’s way – this is called repentance.
“So, turn away from your sins. Turn to God. Then your sins will be wiped away. The Lord will make everything new.” Acts 3:19 (New International Readers Version - NIRV)
John says, our sins are taken away when we honestly and sincerely confess them to God and decide in our hearts that we want to follow Jesus from this point on.
“If we confess our sins, he will forgive our sins, because we can trust God to do what is right. He will cleanse us from all the wrongs we have done.” 1John 1:9 (NCVB)Jesus gives us an invitation that we should not refuse. What will you do?
“Come to me, all of you who are tired and have heavy loads, and I will give you rest. Accept my teachings and learn from me, because I am gentle and humble in spirit, and you will find rest for your lives. The burden that I ask you to accept is easy; the load I give you to carry is light.” Matthew 11:29-31 (NCVB)
Jesus says, listen to what I’m saying to you, this is an invitation to start a new life with me. I’m knocking on the door of your life, just open your heart and invite me in!
“Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in and eat with you, and you will eat with me.” Revelation 3:20 (NCVB).
