James 1:21-22 Listen and Do by Karen Cowling

ďSo, put out of your life every evil thing and every kind of wrong. Then in gentleness accept Godís teaching that is planted in your hearts, which can save you. Do what Godís teaching says; when you only listen and do nothing, you are fooling yourselves.Ē James 1:21-22 (NCV)

As we looked at yesterday we need to make a move to get rid of the bad things in our lives so that God will come and change us to be more like Jesus. Why should we do this?

We do this because it's what God's word says. In the Bible there are rules and directions on how to live to be more like Jesus. Just reading the Gospels (Mathew, Mark, Luke and John), and seeing how Jesus spoke to the poor and the people that most other people at the time would have avoided is an example as to how we should now live our lives. Jesus tells us to love our neighbour and that our neighbour is anyone and everyone, even if we would normally cross the road rather than have eye contact.

These teachings of Jesus are really good to read and know, but that is not enough, we have to actually do them! Otherwise it's pointless.

Today Pray:

Lord Jesus, thank you that I can learn how to be more like you by reading God's word in the Bible. Please help me to read it and learn it, but more than that, please help me to live it! I ask this in your name Jesus. Amen
