Wednesday 6th September 2017 - Bible verse:
1 Peter 1:13-16 Shaped by The Word by Karen Cowling

ďSo, roll up your sleeves, put your mind in gear ... Donít lazily slip back into those old grooves of evil, doing just what you feel like doing. You didnít know any better then; you do now. As obedient children, let yourselves be pulled into a way of life shaped by Godís life, a life energetic and blazing with holiness. God said, ďI am holy; you be holy.Ē 1 Peter 1:13-16 (The Message Bible)

Keeping on the path is not a relaxed stroll but rather a marathon that requires attention and effort. In this version it says: roll up your sleeves, put your mind in gear... This makes us think of the effort and concentration that continuing in this way of life takes. It would be very easy to just sit back and slip back into our old way of life.

The thing with the enemy is that if we start to sit back and slip back then the pull to just give up on God will be stronger and stronger. As a new creation we now know a better way to live, and yes it does take our effort but the prize at the end, eternal life with God, is far more rewarding than anything this world could ever offer.

Today pray:

Lord Jesus, Thank you that you are helping me become more like you every day. Please give me the strength and the drive to continue to read and do your word. Please forgive me for when I start to slip back into what I once knew, and help me to remember the prize of eternal life. I ask this in your name Jesus. Amen
